One might think Thanksgiving is a troublesome holiday for a vegan, but with a little creativity (and a genius product called Tofurkey), that need not be the case. This year, Babe will probably skip the main course, because, really, isn't it all about the pie? Farmer's Market Foods provides an easy, yummy vegan pumpkin pie recipe on its website. Top with Soyatoo whipped cream, and it's just as good as any of those condensed milk-based creations. It takes a little longer, but VegWeb tells you how to make a great pecan pie. Vegan doesn't exactly mean calorie-free, so for those of you keeping guard over the scale, try this as an alternative, low-fat dessert: heat a pecan pie or apple pie LARABAR for about 10 seconds in the microwave and crumble over vanilla soy ice cream. Most products can be found at Whole Foods and health food stores.
As for entertainment, no football in this house. Babe will be watching the Macy's parade, and -- what else? -- "Babe." If she can stay awake long enough after all that pie, maybe she'll make it a double feature with "Babe: Pig in the City."
Feeling especially thankful this year? Throw a little charity the way of those you will (hopefully) not be eating and adopt your very own gobbler. Farm Sanctuary has quite a few available, including the stunning Pearl, who will be a star attraction this Saturday during the Celebration FOR the Turkeys at the group's Watkins Glen, N.Y. facility.
